I have yet to find an expressions that bears such a wondrous constellation of simultaneous divergence and convergence in associations in people's minds.
It's interesting when you google it: 34,500,000 hits for 'tow the line' and 77,000,000 for 'toe the line,' but only for the latter one with more hits did it suggest that you spelled it wrong...
